June 2024 - Dungeness RSPB reserve

Vipers Bugloss

On Wednesday 19 June, six of us spent an absolutely stunning day at Dungeness RSPB reserve where we saw or heard 45 different bird species, followed by a walk down to the shingle beach and the obligatory fish and chips at the Pilot Inn!

Again we were appreciative of the on site reserve warden Steve, who kindly shared his knowledge and offered a guided walk. Its a lovely time of year at present, with so many birds rearing their chicks, as in the photo below of a Great Crested Grebe. The wild flowers were also a delight, especially the Vipers Bugloss below which were prolific and great pollinators for insects. Finally the steam train came along to greet us, which capped the day.

I'm sure we will be return visitors as there was so much more to see.
